Appraising current therapy for breast cancer

Abstract

Oophorectomy was and still is the basic procedure carried out in premenopausal women to control systemic breast cancer. Hormonal manipulation also may involve administration of hormones, adrenalectomy, and hypophysectomy. Many drugs and combinations of drugs are presently being tested as primary treatment for metastatic disease as well as adjuvants to surgery.
