Selecting endocrine therapy for metastatic breast cancer

Abstract

Endocrine therapy for metastatic breast cancer may involve either surgical removal of hormone-producing glands or pharmacologic hormone therapy. The estrogen receptor, or ER, test can now be used to help in predicting whether a patient will benefit from endocrine therapy.
