Understanding teenage drug abuse

Abstract

Young people take drugs for many reasons—as part of normal adolescent exploration, to be accepted socially, to deal with specific situations. Treatment for the drug abuser is more likely to be effective when the clinician understands the meaning of drug use to the individual.
