Diuretic agents mechanisms of action and clinical uses

Abstract

Effective use of diuretics depends on a knowledge of where and how these agents act to block sodium reabsorption in the nephron. Thiazides—alone or in combination with other diuretics—are useful in treating most edematous states. Diuretics also are effective in a number of nonedematous states.
