How does leukemia invade the central nervous system?

Abstract

Therapy directed toward preventing leukemia from invading the central nervous system has revolutionized the treatment of acute leukemia in children, providing the prospect of cure in the majority of cases. Review of the unique ways in which leukemia invades the CNS sheds light on the pathophysiology of the disease and the rationale of current therapy.
