Pneumonia in Children

Abstract

The clinical syndromes of viral and bacterial pneumonia overlap enough that even the best clinician is often guessing at the true cause. Doubt regarding the infectious agent often prompts the use of laboratory tests whose findings are as equivocal in their interpretation as are those of the physical examination. Recommendations include monitoring of blood gases, drainage, needle aspiration, and antibiotic administration with careful follow-up.
