Abstract

The cause of respiratory depression in a newborn must be quickly determined so that effective therapy can be given. Need for assisted ventilation is dictated by the condition of the infant. Whether bag and mask or endotracheal intubation is used to deliver oxygen depends on the degree of neonatal depression and the experience of the resuscitator.
