Abstract
Barbiturates head the list of drugs that can precipitate acute attacks of acute intermittent porphyria, variegate porphyria, or inherited coproporphyria. Most patients with porphyria cutanea tarda have a history of alcohol abuse. An addition to the list of possible precipitants of attacks of some hepatic porphyrias is the pill.
