Abstract

Low platelet and granulocyte counts, due to the myelosuppressive effects of disease or chemotherapy, are associated with increased likelihood of hemorrhage and infection. With the use of newly developed techniques of collecting and transfusing these blood components, morbidity and mortality have been reduced. Adverse effects in donors have been few.
