Abstract

A random sampling of hospital admissions and of visits to emergency room and physician's office by residents of a small town showed injuries and infections to be the most common reasons for seeking medical attention. Most frequent injuries were abrasions, sprains, and fractures due to falls, and wounds inflicted by metal objects. Most frequent infections were of upper or lower respiratory tract and undifferentiated infections with systemic signs.
