Regular exercise lowers certain risk factors for coronary artery disease, such as endogenous lipemia and elevated blood pressure, and enhances myocardial function and coronary blood flow. These effects may be mediated in part by altered hormone secretion; they are important as protective mechanisms in long-term prevention of heart disease.
