Pericardial effusion and electrical alternans

Abstract

Echocardiography is a powerful tool in the assessment of myocardial dynamics in patients with pericardial effusion. Combining this technique with clinical examination and electrocardiography, the physician in most cases can quickly and accurately determine noninvasively the risk of cardiac tamponade and the need for definitive therapy.
