Abstract

Many questions about anticoagulant therapy, such as whether heparin preparations differ in effectiveness, the best method of heparin administration, and optimum duration of therapy, are still unanswered. However, extensive experimental and clinical experience has led to a closer consensus about some aspects of therapy, and morbidity and mortality associated with venous thromboembolism have been reduced.
