Abstract

Infection is the most common cause of an enlarged spleen in children, but the list of possibilities included in the differential diagnosis is extensive. The spleen has lymphoid, reticuloendothelial, and vascular components, any of which may be involved in systemic diseases that result in splenomegaly.
