GALLSTONES

Identification of gallstone disease

Pages 163-172 | Published online: 07 Jul 2016

Abstract

The multifactorial origin of gallstone disease and the wide spectrum of manifestations have been described in the first two articles in this series (September and October). Among the procedures for diagnosing gallstone disease, which are described here, oral cholecystography is the mainstay. Other useful techniques are cholangiography, tomography, ultrasonography, and occasionally, endoscopically directed biliary drainage.
