LABORATORY MEDICINE

Hypertension: Strategies for laboratory diagnosis

Pages 77-85 | Published online: 07 Jul 2016

Abstract

For most hypertensive patients, a simple laboratory workup, including such tests as urinalysis, ECG, and hemoglobin, potassium, and creatinine determinations, is sufficient. However, if clinical or laboratory clues suggest a suggest correctable cause, more extensive testing is required. Test strategies for pheochromocytoma, renovascular hypertension, and primary aldosteronism are detailed here.
