Pages 132-149 | Published online: 07 Jul 2016

Abstract

The skin can be thought of as a mirror, reflecting systemic diseases by a variety of cutaneous manifestations. Careful examination of the skin in every patient who presents with symptoms will often provide elues to etiology, particularly if the symptoms are vague and ill defined. In asymptomatic patients, such examination can sometimes uncover signs of disease long before other manifestations appear.
