As Drs Simons and Travell discussed in part 1 (page 66) of this three-part article, low back pain can arise from hyperirritable foci, called trigger points, in skeletal muscle or its fascia. In this second part, these authors describe specific pain syndromes originating in muscles of the torso, and in part 3 (page 99), they consider those syndromes that originate in muscles of the pelvis and lower extremity.
