Every physician who deals with children has seen the infant who “just doesn't look right” Anxious parents want to be assured that nothing—at least nothing serious—is wrong. An early diagnosis of a genetic defect that later proves to be erroneous causes unnecessary grief, while an offhand but ill-founded assurance that all is well can be responsible for future heartbreak. Dr Lubinsky's article provides some helpful suggestions for the clinician facing this unhappy dilemma.
