Syncope is a frustrating symptom to treat because its causes are myriad. The mechanisms involved, however, are few, and the physician who can distinguish which one or which combination of them is operational in a particular patient is one step ahead of the game. Dr Knight reviews the three major mechanisms of syncope and provides a table of findings and possible interventions associated with each mechanism.
