In cases of head trauma, one of the most puzzling and troubling problems to face a physician is the patient who has made an apparently complete physical recovery but who continues to show a substantial personality change and can no longer function intellectually at previous levels. Frontal lobe dysfunction may be responsible for such change. As pointed out by Drs Massey and Coffey in their discussion of the diagnosis and treatment of the syndromes caused by frontal lobe dysfunction, supportive and often long-term psychologic support of both patient and family is needed for optimum management.
