Although most primary care physicians are not often called on to treat patients with chronic leukemia, they do see such patients occasionally, especially when the disease is in the beginning stage and the symptoms are very general. The advent of allogeneic bone marrow transplantation has given new hope for cure of at least chronic myelogenous leukemia, and this technique may prove applicable to other forms of leukemia as well.
