Surely, vaginal symptoms are among the commonest medical complaints in women. Although many types of vaginal disease are sexually transmissible and thus are most common in sexually active women, many infections and other diseases can be nonvenereal and can occur in any age-group. As pointed out by Dr Novotny in this overview, if the primary care physician is familiar with the various disease presentations, nonspecific treatment should be a thing of the past.
