Rational approach to management

Management of dog, cat, and other mammalian bites remains a controversial area of medicine, with debate still raging on such issues as the best antiseptic for wound cleansing, the need for suturing, and particularly, the value of antibiotic prophylaxis. Well-designed prospective studies must be done before a definitive approach to management can be developed, but in the meantime, Dr Hawkins and his associates present practical advice for physicians faced with treating these common injuries.
