Perhaps one of the worst effects of childhood enuresis is the social problems it creates. Enuretic children are reluctant to be overnight guests and they must endure teasing and misunderstanding from peers and from siblings and parents. How prevalent is enuresis? Does pharmacotherapy help? What behavioral techniques have proved useful? This article describes a comprehensive method of evaluating children with enuresis and discusses current trends in pharmacologic and behavioral treatment.
