The effects of a stroke often are quite serious and can be devastating to both patient and family. As Dr Schuchmann points out, the primary care physician plays a key role in determining what kind of life the stroke survivor will lead. The physician who understands the rehabilitation process can do much during the first days after a stroke and, along with a network of health care specialists, can provide invaluable instruction afterward to start the patient on the road to a successful recovery.
