Why tight diabetes control should be approached with caution

For the past half century, diabetes therapy has fluctuated between loose control and tight control. The present trend toward tight control is an attempt to delay or prevent long-term complications and reduce associated morbidity and mortality. But, is tight control desirable for all patients? Dr Ainslie presents an appraisal of old and new diabetes therapies and suggests a cautious approach to tight-control regimens.
