Hematuria

A suggested workup strategy

When a patient has hematuria, the physician must play the part of medical detective, searching for clues to the cause. The job is not an easy one, since the possible causes are numerous and in many cases the bleeding is a sign of serious renal or urinary tract disease. In this article, Drs Ng and Seto present their plan of action for quickly and efficiently reaching an etiologic diagnosis.
