As a peer reviewer of Dr Olsen's article remarked, skin cancer of the head and neck is a “timely” topic that “should be of great interest to practicing physicians.” This interest is understandable, given the fact that skin cancer is the malignant disease most often encountered by primary care physicians. Described here are types of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma: how they look, how they grow, how they can best be treated. Of particular interest are Dr Olsen's comments on reconstruction of the surgical defect left by excision of a basal cell tumor.
