As the size of our elderly population expands, the issue of hypertension management increases in importance. Although some data are conflicting or inconclusive, the general principles of treatment for hypertension in the elderly are much like those for younger patients. Drs Onrot and Wood here outline treatment, giving some special precautions for this age-group. The thoughtful reader will want to compare this article with the article by Dr George N. Aagaard, which begins on page 61 and which gives a slightly different emphasis in regard to the controversial subject of hypertension treatment in the elderly.
