It is no secret that patients with functional complaints and physicians may be at odds in a frustrating situation. Patients feel compelled to seek out medical care for their psychogenic syndrome; physicians feel frustrated in their futile attempts at treatment. According to Drs Rynearson and Melson, psychiatrists working in medical settings can interrupt this frustrating interchange and offer relief to the patient.
