“Pruritus ani is not a gloomy subject.” so contends British consultant surgeon Mr Alexander-Williams. Writing in a wry and graphic style, he describes the principal factors predisposing to this condition and offers seven rules for treating it successfully. He strongly cautions against the use of many commonly applied drugs, stating that they can further damage the skin or trigger an allergic reaction.
