Excessive menstruation has long plagued women, but only in the past decade has its mechanism in ovulatory women come to be understood. What prostaglandin derangements underlie this disorder? Which tests need to be done to rule out organic disease? How is the disorder treated if the patient wants to remain fertile? Dr Strickler considers the pathophysiology, investigation, and management of dysfunctional uterine bleeding in ovulatory women, with an emphasis on alternatives to hysterectomy.
