Evaluation of patients with disorders of calcium metabolism has traditionally been complex and confusing. The last two decades have seen a rapid growth in the understanding of systemic calcium homeostasis and the development of a variety of new and reliable tools for the assessment of patients with abnormal calcium homeostasis.
