The hospice concept

Comfort care for dying patients

Today, the dying patient has an alternative to the aggressive, “curative,” life-prolonging treatments usually employed in the past. The hospice concept of care attempts to minimize the suffering of dying patients and their families and allow patients to control their own destinies and die with dignity. This article examines the hospice movement and the methods used to accomplish its goals.
