In part 1 of this two-part article (page 59), Dr Mellion reviewed the literature on the value of exercise in the treatment of anxiety and depression. In this second part, he examines specific aspects of exercise, eg, the notion of exercise addiction and “runner's high,” the role of endorphins, and the emotional aspects of exercise. He also offers guidelines for helping anxious or depressed patients to initiate a routine exercise program.
