Some common causes of hip pain

Hip pain is a common complaint in clinical practice and one that can be difficult to diagnose accurately. As Dr McBeath discusses, one reason for the difficulty is that hip pathology can cause pain elsewhere in the body, just as hip pain can be referred from abnormalities elsewhere. Several entities causing pain in the hip region are discussed, and the importance of physical diagnosis is stressed.
