Although bulimia was officially recognized as a disorder only five years ago, the peculiar behavior of binge eating followed by purging is not new. Unfortunately, bulimia—along with its better known counterpart anorexia nervosa—appears to be on the rise. Dr Kelly examines the characteristics of this primarily female disorder and discusses appropriate treatment, including a promising new pharmacologic approach.
