Use of beta-adrenergic blocking agents after myocardial infarction

A major goal of preventive medicine is prolongation of life in the heterogeneous group of patients who survive acute myocardial infarction. Of the many interventions that have been tried, beta-adrenergic blockade seems to be the most promising. Drs Frishman, Ruggio, and Furberg examine the long-term trials that have been carried out with these agents and interpret the findings for clinical use.
