Melanoma is increasing in frequency so fast that if the trend continues, it will become one of the most frequent causes of cancer death in the United States. Early treatment through excision of this lesion and its precursors can prevent the vast majority of these deaths. But before these lesions can be treated, they must be identified. Drs Evans and Miller provide a helpful refresher on diagnosis, using text and colored photographs to explain how to identify melanoma and its precursors and distinguish them from look-alike lesions.
