Physicians often wrestle with the problem of postoperative fever in the patient who has undergone abdominal surgery. Such fever is usually explained by readily identified infectious and inflammatory disorders. The authors explore some uncommon, potentially life-threatening infections that can cause fever following abdominal surgery and are amenable to treatment.
