The case for closer surveillance

A number of studies have shown that serum cholesterol is an important indicator of risk for cardiovascular disease. Yet, as Dr Nash points out in this article, elevated cholesterol goes unidentified and untreated in many hospitalized patients. He reports a study of hospital records, the results of which indicate the need for improvement in diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of hypercholesterolemia.
