The relationship between diet and migraine has been a source of controversy for many years. In fact, many descriptions of sick headache from ancient times include diet as a potential causative agent. Although the literature continues to present conflicting views on diet and headache in general, certain relationships have become clear because of increased understanding of basic pathophysiologic mechanisms and a more rational approach to the nomenclature of diet-related headache. In this article, the authors indicate which foods are most often implicated in migraine.
