Although sexual dysfunction is often perceived as a concomitant of diabetes in men, it can occur in diabetic women as well. In this article, Drs House and Pendleton discuss the results of a survey of how physicians respond to sexual dysfunction in their diabetic patients. They explore the extent to which physicians address these sexual concerns, their course of action when a diabetic patient has a sexual problem, and the extent to which their response to men and women differs. Their study results point to the need for physicians who treat diabetes to be well versed in, and attentive to, sexual dysfunction among patients of both genders.
