Headache pain, whether minor or excruciating, is an aggravating problem that affects nearly all persons, many of whom seek relief from a physician. Fortunately, most headaches are benign. However, physicians must remain alert to the exceptional instances when headache warns of a serious disease. In the following article, Dr Hansotia reviews the mechanisms of head pain and presents a practical approach to evaluation and management of various types of headache, especially headaches of vascular origin.
