Intradermal gamma globulin for herpes labialis?

Results of a double-blind study

Pages 315-318 | Published online: 16 May 2016

Abstract

When Dr Redman noted that use of intradermal gamma globulin, which he was giving for repeated bouts of bronchitis, seemed to result in regression of herpes labialis, he initiated a randomized placebo-controlled double-blind study to verify or disprove his observation. The results, reported here, surprised him and point up the need for all primary care physicians to rely on scientific evidence to confirm clinical impressions.
