Alzheimer's disease, a major source of dementia in the elderly, is increasing in frequency in the United States. It has no known cause, is diagnosed by exclusion, and has no cure. Dr Rousseau describes the pathologic findings and progressive deterioration of Alzheimer's disease and explains how to differentiate the disease from others with similar signs. He also examines the effectiveness of several types of medications that are used to ease symptoms.
