A penetrating neck wound may represent an instance of isolated injury in a patient or may be part of a broader clinical picture. In either case, management based on sound principles of anatomy and ballistics is a must According to Drs Broniatowski and Tucker, a selective, rather than routine, approach to surgical exploration of these injuries has yielded excellent results in terms of recovery and avoids unnecessary surgical intervention.
