As the number of spinal cord-injured patients increases in our society, so too does the likelihood that the primary care physician will encounter autonomic dysreflexia. If not recognized and treated promptly, this condition can end in death. Thus, it behooves all physicians, not just specialists, to be familiar with the basics of its diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
