Abstract
Few topics can be expected to provoke more spirited social conversation than sports or drug misuse or abuse. When the talk turns to sports and drugs, even professionals working with athletes are likely to disagree on the best approach to the problem. Dr Ryan, who has broad experience in sports medicine, presents the prevailing viewpoints on drug abuse and misuse by athletes and discusses the reason that an effective method of dealing with this issue has not been developed.
